為歡迎及招收更多台灣學生，美國南卡羅萊納大學(University of South Carolina)近日正式宣佈自2009年起，凡目前或未來申請就讀該校之台灣學生，均可比照該州州內學生享有優惠學費待遇。
此種優惠待遇，在今日美國學費高漲，經濟逐漸衰退情況下，對於有志留學美國之台灣學生，特別具有鼓舞作用。近年來，南卡羅萊納大學已與台灣大學、銘傳大學及中國醫藥大學建立良好學術關係，除了每年暑假選送兩梯次華語文及文化研習團到台灣作短期進修之外，該校校長及副校長均曾分別受邀訪問台灣，促進雙邊教育合作關係。
此外，今年南卡羅納大學兩名教育系學者獲得教育部研究補助，到台灣進行為期3週專題研究及參訪活動。該校國際事務助理副校長Patricia Willer女士並應財團法人台灣高等教育國際合作基金會之邀，到台灣講授「申辦國際研討會之技巧與實務經驗」。Willer助理副校長表示，未來將加強招收台灣學生及校際合作，並將協助安排台灣中小學校長至該州學校訪問，招募華語老師到該州任教。(

University of South Carolina / Taiwan Sister-State Tuition Benefit
The University of South Carolina is pleased to offer resident (in-state) tuition to citizens of Taiwan who are admitted students to Bachelor, Master, and PhD programs. This benefit lowers tuition significantly, resulting in savings of approximately $14000 for undergraduate students and approximately $9000 for graduate students. The benefit was established through the sister-state agreement between the State of South Carolina and the Province of Taiwan and is extended at will by the University of South Carolina. Applicants must be admitted to a degree-seeking program at the University of South Carolina and must demonstrate Taiwan citizenship with a passport.
